A Chatham couple is taking their love for OHL hockey to a whole new level by getting married at center ice during a Windsor Spitfires game. Sheldon Cadotte, 30, and Daylene Trudell, 27, have arranged to have their wedding ceremony at the WFCU Centre on January 8, coinciding with the Spitfires’ game against the Erie Otters.
The couple, who got engaged on the same ice rink during a Spitfires game in April 2025, will exchange vows during the second intermission of the game. Windsor Spitfires mascots, Bomber, Ace, and Spike, will be among the witnesses, along with around 6,000 fans and the couple’s friends.
Trudell, who introduced Cadotte to OHL hockey, feels right at home with the idea of getting married in an arena due to her upbringing around hockey games. The Spitfires organization is covering all the expenses for the ceremony, providing the couple with a suite and ensuring they have a memorable experience.
Although they were initially fans of other OHL teams, the couple now considers the Windsor Spitfires as their home team and admires the players’ dedication on the ice. The unique wedding coincides with Elvis Presley’s birthday, and the WFCU Centre plans to celebrate with Elvis-themed music during the game, creating a night of “rock n’ roll and romance.”
Cadotte and Trudell are excited about their unconventional wedding, viewing it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience that combines their love for each other and the game of hockey.
