“New York Sirens Extend Streak with 2-0 Victory in Toronto”

Sports"New York Sirens Extend Streak with 2-0 Victory in Toronto"

Kristýna Kaltounkova netted two goals, with Kayle Osborne making 31 saves for a shutout as the New York Sirens triumphed over the Sceptres 2-0 in Toronto during the Professional Women’s Hockey League event on Tuesday. This win marked New York’s fourth consecutive victory, maintaining their winning streak. Meanwhile, Elaine Chuli stopped 20 shots for Toronto, but their losing streak extended to three games.

Kaltounkova scored her first goal by redirecting a shot from Jincy Roese early in the second period. She later missed a penalty shot opportunity after a scramble in front of the net caused by a New York offensive. However, with just 6.5 seconds remaining in the game, Kaltounkova secured an empty-net goal to seal the victory.

Toronto struggled to create scoring opportunities, especially in the final moments of the game, while the Sirens capitalized on a crucial chance to secure the win. This victory propelled the Sirens to second place in the PWHL standings, trailing the Boston Fleet by just one point.

The pivotal moment of the game came with Kaltounkova’s tip-in goal, providing New York with the necessary lead to withstand Toronto’s late push. Additionally, Daryl Watts entered the game with an impressive point streak and goal streak, nearing league records set by previous players.

In their upcoming games, the Sirens will host the Minnesota Frost on January 16, while the Sceptres will face off against the Boston Fleet on January 14.
