Rumors about the iPhone 20 are already surfacing online, even though the iPhone 18 has not been officially revealed yet. While the iPhone 18 is anticipated to launch in September, speculation points to a potential release of the iPhone 20 in 2027. Initial reports suggest that Apple might introduce a completely revamped appearance for the 20th-anniversary model, featuring a significantly curved design and extremely thin borders.
Renowned tipster Schrdinger, known as @phonefuturist on X, has hinted that the upcoming anniversary iPhone, likely to be the iPhone 20, could sport incredibly thin 1.1mm bezels along all sides of the display. The device is rumored to embrace a rounded shape with a quad-curved design to seamlessly blend the display and frame. The tipster has even shared a mock-up image showcasing a convex display glass gently curving along the edges to meet a slim frame seamlessly.
Furthermore, the tipster indicated that Apple is considering Samsung’s under-panel camera (UPC) technology to achieve a full-screen design. However, concerns about image quality have supposedly led Apple to explore alternative options. As a result, the anniversary iPhone might opt for a smaller Dynamic Island compared to the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro or feature a punch-hole cutout for the front camera. The post also hints at the potential integration of Samsung’s “Polar ID” face recognition system.
Since Apple has not officially verified these claims, it’s advisable to approach this information with caution.
A recent leak on Weibo suggests that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro may come with a reduced Dynamic Island compared to its predecessors. The cutout is expected to shrink to around 13.49mm in width, a significant decrease from the approximately 20.76mm found on the iPhone 17 Pro — marking a nearly 35% reduction. This change is allegedly attributed to Apple relocating a portion of its Face ID system, specifically the flood illuminator, beneath the display. By moving this component under the screen, Apple can create more space within the pill-shaped cutout, allowing for a more compact design without compromising functionality. The bezels are likely to remain unchanged, retaining the flat-edged design, while minimal to no significant alterations are anticipated for the rear panel.
