“Qatar to Invest in Canada’s Infrastructure, Boost Economy”

Politics"Qatar to Invest in Canada's Infrastructure, Boost Economy"

Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that Qatar is set to make significant strategic investments in Canada’s major infrastructure projects. These investments are expected to accelerate project completion, boost energy sectors, and generate employment opportunities for Canadians. The announcement was made during a press briefing in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Describing the move as a fresh chapter in bilateral ties, Carney highlighted plans to enhance cultural connections between the two nations, including expanding direct flights from Canada to Qatar to promote tourism and commerce. Emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange, Carney stated that mutual understanding between people from different countries enriches relationships, fosters trust, and encourages collaborative efforts.

After prolonged discussions, Canada aims to finalize the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement with Qatar by summer. Additionally, Canada intends to deploy a defense attaché in Doha to strengthen defense partnerships between the two countries.

Earlier on the same day, Carney was warmly received at an official ceremony and held discussions with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Carney extended an invitation for the Emir to visit Canada later this year, further solidifying the growing ties between the two nations.

Carney’s visit to Qatar is part of a broader initiative to enhance trade and cooperation in artificial intelligence, infrastructure, energy, and defense sectors with Qatar. This visit follows a series of meetings in Beijing, where Carney and several cabinet ministers engaged with key political and business figures to bolster trade relations with China.

As part of the government’s strategy to diversify trade partners beyond traditional allies like the United States, Carney’s visit aims to attract new investments and expand trade opportunities for Canada. The visit will conclude with Carney’s participation in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
