At least one individual lost their life following the collapse of a four-story hotel in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, as confirmed by the authorities. Rescue efforts are underway at the scene amid concerns that multiple individuals may be trapped beneath the debris.
Heavy machinery such as cranes has been deployed to clear the rubble resulting from the incident which occurred at approximately 5:50 PM in Kotma town. Reports from a senior police official suggest that an estimated 6-7 individuals could be stuck under the wreckage.
Following the collapse, a significant crowd gathered at the location near the local bus stand, where the hotel was situated in a bustling area. Nearby store owners mentioned that an old structure had been demolished to make way for a new construction adjacent to the hotel. They noted that a deep excavation was being carried out for the new building’s foundation.
Local residents suspect that the excavation work might have compromised the hotel’s structural integrity. Eyewitnesses claimed that the four-story building displayed signs of leaning to one side before eventually collapsing.
The incident is currently under investigation, with no further details available at this time.
