Ten-year-old Myer Gallant of O’Leary, P.E.I., faced a difficult decision when granted a wish by Make-A-Wish. Instead of opting for a pool or a Disney cruise, Myer chose to meet his hockey idols, Sidney Crosby and Ryan Graves, and attend a Pittsburgh Penguins game. Living with spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic disorder affecting the nervous and skeletal muscles, Myer fulfilled his dream last week with his mother, Jaclyn Ellis, and cousin Rowan Rennie.

The trip to Pittsburgh was a remarkable experience for Myer and his family. Ellis praised Make-A-Wish for their exceptional work but highlighted that the Penguins exceeded all expectations during the visit.

Upon arrival in Pittsburgh, the group had the opportunity to witness a Penguins practice session and a game. Myer was pleasantly surprised to find a personalized locker set up for him in the dressing room, complete with a helmet, a bag of hats, and a jersey bearing his name and the number 87.

Meeting Sidney Crosby in person, Myer was thrilled to have a conversation and even participated in a brief interview. He officially signed a contract to be an honorary Penguin for a day, a moment he described as both exciting and nerve-wracking.

The Islanders brought gifts from the Maritimes to show their appreciation to Crosby and Graves, who both hail from Nova Scotia. A special connection was established when Graves invited the family to the dressing room, emphasizing their shared Maritime roots.

Myer expressed his gratitude for the experience, especially sharing it with his cousin Rowan, who received a surprise gift from Crosby that left them both in awe. Ellis, witnessing the joy on her sons’ faces, reflected on the exceptional treatment they received from the Penguins, making it a memorable and heartwarming experience for the entire family.
