The Haryana State Commission for Women has summoned singer Masoom Sharma following accusations of using offensive language and inappropriate behavior during a live performance at DAV College in Dehradun. The Commission expressed grave concern over the allegations, stating that such actions, if verified, could compromise the dignity and respect of women. The incident is being investigated in the context of women’s rights and public behavior standards.
Under the authority granted by the Haryana State Commission for Women Act, 2012, Sharma has been ordered to personally appear at the Commission’s Panchkula office on April 18 at 11 am. He must provide a detailed account of the events, with the Commission cautioning of potential repercussions for non-compliance.
Reports suggest that Sharma, along with singer Ajay Hooda, performed at a student union cultural event where Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also in attendance. Allegedly, after the chief minister departed, Sharma used inappropriate language on stage, causing discomfort to police personnel, college staff, and students. Despite efforts by Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar to intervene, the singer continued his behavior.
In response to the situation, Sharma issued a video apology citing mental stress due to harassment by an unidentified individual. He expressed remorse and clarified that his actions were not intended to offend anyone.
Sharma has been embroiled in previous controversies, including assault and harassment allegations in 2024, the Haryana government’s directive to remove some of his songs from YouTube in 2025 over accusations of promoting gun culture, and a separate dispute over his comments during a live performance in Jind earlier this year.
