“Israeli Forces Obliterate Villages in Southern Lebanon”

World"Israeli Forces Obliterate Villages in Southern Lebanon"

Maps still depict these villages, but the reality on the ground tells a starkly different story. Entire communities in southern Lebanon have been obliterated by Israel, leaving behind only dust where once stood homes, shops, and memories spanning generations.

While global attention wavered between US-Iran discussions in Islamabad, Israeli forces conducted a systematic campaign that leveled significant portions of civilian residences throughout Lebanon. The IDF allegedly rigged houses with explosives, triggering massive remote detonations that decimated sections of villages like Taybeh, Naqoura, and Deir Seryan in a bid to target Hezbollah-related infrastructure.

Reports from Lebanese media suggest similar demolitions in neighboring villages, although independent verification is scarce. The destruction pattern is evident, with entire clusters of homes being wiped out in a single sweep rather than targeted strikes.

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, publicly advocated for the demolition of “all houses” in border villages, drawing parallels to tactics used in Gaza. This approach has faced criticism previously, notably in Rafah, where extensive devastation occurred. While Israel claims to be targeting Hezbollah strongholds, critics argue that such wholesale destruction of villages may breach legal boundaries.

Israel’s intention to establish a “security zone” up to the Litani River in southern Lebanon has raised concerns about prolonged displacement for residents. Against the backdrop of a fragile US-Iran ceasefire, with ongoing hostilities and failed negotiations between the two countries in Islamabad, fears persist about the lasting impact of the reported village demolitions.

Iran has emphasized the necessity for a cessation of Israeli actions in southern Lebanon for any enduring ceasefire. Talks between Israel and Lebanon are anticipated to commence soon, potentially in Washington. However, clashes persist on the ground, with recent casualties from Israeli strikes prompting retaliatory actions from Hezbollah.
