Former Indian cricket star, Ravichandran Ashwin, has expressed his views ahead of the highly awaited IPL 2026 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. Despite recognizing RCB’s strong performance this season, Ashwin revealed his sentimental attachment to his former team, CSK.
Even though CSK is struggling without their ex-skipper MS Dhoni, sidelined due to injury, Ashwin’s preference showcases a blend of nostalgia and understanding of team dynamics.
“I wouldn’t label them as clear favorites. My heart leans towards the yellow side. I’m unapologetic about it. For this match, my heart says CSK, but my mind goes with RCB,” stated Ashwin. “What more can I add? In the initial game, CSK struggled, scoring only 127 against RR. It was cloudy, the pitch was covered, and despite that, they stuck with that lineup. It was an anomaly.”
Ashwin’s comments shed light on the wider challenges confronting CSK this season. The absence of their experienced leadership, along with experimental team selections, has disrupted their usual equilibrium, hampering their consistency in the early matches.
“Such fluctuations are common in T20 cricket. Following consecutive defeats, in the next game, they only utilized two overseas players, benching Jamie Overton and Matt Short for Rahul Chahar and Prashant Veer. How many alterations can you make after back-to-back losses?” questioned Ashwin.
