Brijesh Sharma is set to mark his debut in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals as they face off against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati in the IPL 2026 opener. Rajasthan Royals have won the toss and chosen to field in the opening game of the season for both teams.
Hailing from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, Brijesh Sharma, an uncapped right-arm pacer, was acquired by Rajasthan Royals for his base price of Rs 30 lakhs in the IPL 2026 auction held in Abu Dhabi. Despite not having prior professional cricket experience, his selection was based on his promising potential.
His notable performance in the 2025 Bengal Pro T20 League while playing for Malda Smashers, where he secured 11 wickets in seven matches, showcased his talent. Seeking better prospects, he relocated to Bengal and now represents the Bengal Cricket Association after facing setbacks in the Jammu state setup.
Under the guidance of coach Deepak Punia at Unique Sports Club in Delhi, Brijesh honed his skills and gained a deeper understanding of the intricacies of top-tier cricket. Aged 27, hailing from a modest background with his father employed as a laborer, Brijesh’s journey has been supported by the unwavering encouragement of his family and friends through the highs and lows of his career.
