Pop singer Chappell Roan announced on Monday that she has terminated her professional relationship with the talent agency headed by Casey Wasserman, the chief of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, following the surfacing of controversial email exchanges between Wasserman and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell over two decades ago. Wasserman expressed regret over his communication with Maxwell after private emails between the two were made public.
Recently disclosed files from the U.S. Justice Department, associated with the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell’s former partner, revealed flirtatious emails between Wasserman, who was married at the time, and Maxwell dating back to 2003.
Roan took to Instagram to declare, “I am no longer under Wasserman’s representation.” She emphasized the importance of artists having representation that aligns with their values and ensures their well-being. Roan stated that her decision reflects the need for accountability and trustworthy leadership in the entertainment industry.
Wasserman, known for his roles in sports and entertainment, denied any personal or professional ties with Epstein. He clarified that his connection with Maxwell occurred before their criminal activities were exposed. The talent agency affiliated with Wasserman did not provide an immediate response to the situation.
Maxwell, currently serving a prison term of 20 years following her conviction in New York in 2021 on charges related to sex trafficking of minors, was arrested in 2020. She was accused by federal prosecutors of recruiting and grooming young girls for sexual relations with Epstein between 1994 and 2004.
The release of extensive internal documents by the U.S. Justice Department concerning Epstein has unveiled his associations with various influential individuals, both prior to and after his 2008 guilty plea to soliciting an underage girl for prostitution. Epstein’s death in a Manhattan prison in 2019 was ruled a suicide.
