BusinessDalal Street Closed for Good Friday, Resumes Trading Monday

Dalal Street has experienced significant fluctuations recently, with market movements being influenced by global signals, impacting investor confidence. The series of holidays has contributed to the uncertainty among traders, particularly as this week is already shortened due to the Ram Navami holiday on March 26.

Investors may be curious about whether the stock markets are operational today. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are closed on April 3 in observance of Good Friday. All trading activities, including equities, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, interest rate derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLBs), are suspended for the day.

Furthermore, the commodity derivatives segment, including the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), will also remain shut for the entire trading session.

Trading will resume on both the NSE and BSE on April 6, Monday, as investors eagerly await the next market session. In addition, most major global markets are closed on Good Friday, including those in the US, UK, and Europe. While markets in China and Japan are open, key markets like Hong Kong and Singapore are closed.

Prior to the holiday break, Indian markets witnessed a robust recovery on Thursday, with benchmark indices making significant gains. The Nifty 50 surged 530 points from its low to close at 22,713.10, up by 33.70 points. The BSE Sensex also experienced a strong rebound, climbing 1,774 points to settle at 73,319.55, a gain of 185 points.

The market rally was mainly driven by the performance of IT stocks, which played a pivotal role in supporting the broader market sentiment. Despite the positive momentum, market volatility remains high, with the India VIX, a measure of market volatility, indicating lingering cautiousness among traders amidst global uncertainties and recent market fluctuations.

Looking ahead, the 2026 market holiday calendar reveals several upcoming holidays, including Ambedkar Jayanti, Maharashtra Day, and Bakri Id in the coming months. The year will also feature holidays like Muharram, Ganesh Chaturthi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali Balipratipada, and Guru Nanak Jayanti.

With the current closure on Good Friday, traders are advised to monitor global developments closely and prepare for the upcoming trading session on Monday.
