A fatal shooting incident occurred on a GO Transit bus near Yorkdale Shopping Mall on Sunday evening, leading to the death of a man, as confirmed by the authorities. The tragic incident took place around 7 p.m. near the GO terminal located by Yorkdale Road and William R. Allen Road ramp in North York, as reported by the Toronto Police Service (TPS) on social media.

Following the shooting, all passengers and GO staff were safely evacuated from the bus, according to a statement issued by Metrolinx media relations. Emergency services and law enforcement are currently present at the scene, as stated by Metrolinx.

As a result of the incident, bus services to Yorkdale GO have been temporarily suspended. Alternative boarding arrangements have been made available at the York Mills terminal, as communicated in the statement. Detective-Sergeant Jason Davis of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit mentioned during a press briefing that a suspect has been apprehended, and a firearm has been confiscated.

The investigation has been handed over to the TPS homicide unit for further examination. In response to the incident, Metrolinx advised passengers feeling unsafe on trains or buses to utilize the yellow strip or text “HELP” to 77777 for immediate assistance. The transportation agency also highlighted the presence of special constables and customer protection officers stationed on trains, platforms, and stations around the clock to provide additional support to passengers.
