A horse that recently found itself submerged in icy waters near Cochin, Sask., has been affectionately dubbed Frosty after a successful rescue mission. The stranded animal was first spotted by a concerned resident who alerted the village authorities. Cochin’s mayor, Mark Pattinson, alongside his friend Ed Scott, rushed to the scene and found the struggling horse in a precarious situation, trapped in freezing water and ice.
Initial rescue attempts using ropes and manpower, with assistance from community members, proved futile. Eventually, with the arrival of a Jeep equipped with a winch and the support of local residents and RCMP officers, a successful rescue operation unfolded. Ed Scott managed to reach the horse, secured it with a strong rope connected to the Jeep’s winch, and successfully pulled it out of the frozen creek.
Despite being rescued within 30 minutes of being discovered, the horse was in poor condition, showing signs of exhaustion and prolonged exposure to the elements. After being led to the village shop for warmth and care, it was revealed that the horse had been wandering without a designated owner. The community rallied together to provide assistance, including blankets, food, and medical attention.
Following the rescue, Frosty was transported to the Lakeland veterinary clinic in North Battleford for further treatment. The heartwarming response from locals, who generously offered support and resources for the horse’s recovery, underscored the spirit of compassion and solidarity in the community.
