Rising talent Gabriel Diallo leads Canada’s Davis Cup lineup for the upcoming qualifier against Brazil at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver next month. Alongside Diallo, the team will feature Liam Draxl from Newmarket, Ont., Alexis Galarneau from Laval, Que., Nicolas Arsenault from Richmond Hill, Ont., and Cleeve Harper from Calgary, as announced by Tennis Canada in a press release on Monday.
The Davis Cup first-round match is scheduled for Feb. 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. Diallo is set to make his 10th consecutive Davis Cup appearance, having achieved a top 100 ranking in the ATP Tour in 2024 and securing his first ATP Tour title at the Libema Open last year.
The outcome of the match will determine which country progresses to the second qualifying round in September. The seven winning teams will then advance to the Davis Cup Final 8 in November, joining host and defending champion Italy. The Canada-Brazil tie will consist of two singles matches, a doubles match, and two more singles matches on the second day.
Canadian captain Frank Dancevic expressed confidence in the team’s strength for the Vancouver tie, emphasizing their motivation to excel this year following their absence from the final stage in the previous season. The Canadian team, who clinched the Davis Cup in 2022, earned their spot in the first qualifying round by defeating Israel 4-0 in a World Group I tie last September in Halifax.
Draxl holds the 132nd spot in the latest singles rankings, while Galarneau ranks 213th and Arsenault 501st. Harper is placed 94th in the doubles rankings. Diallo’s victory over Zizou Bergs at the Libema Open to secure his first ATP Tour title was a highlight in June 2025.
The upcoming Davis Cup qualifier promises an exciting showdown between Canada and Brazil, with Canadian fans eagerly anticipating the performance of their talented roster.
