FIFA is planning to introduce a halftime show at the World Cup final this summer, featuring Shakira, Madonna, and K-pop sensation BTS. The event, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, aims to raise $100 million for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, supporting children’s education and soccer initiatives.
Traditionally, halftime in soccer is a break for players to rest, lasting 15 minutes as per International Football Association Board rules. It is uncertain if this break will be extended to accommodate the upcoming halftime show.
The announcement of the halftime show has sparked discussions online, with some fans debating whether halftime shows should be exclusive to American football. FIFA President Gianni Infantino believes that uniting music and football on a global stage for a charitable cause is significant.
Additionally, FIFA confirmed that Reggaeton artist J Balvin will perform at the World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City, along with other headliners celebrating Mexican culture. The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, will take place from June to July.
The halftime show is set to bring a new dimension to the World Cup final, blending music and sports for a charitable cause, as FIFA continues to innovate and entertain audiences worldwide.
