Hyundai has issued a caution regarding the seatbelt system in certain 2026 Palisade models. According to a notice on Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database, there is a potential issue with the wiring in the seatbelt of the third-row, left-hand side seat that may get damaged when pulled. This can lead to a malfunction where the seatbelt indicator falsely shows that the seatbelt is fastened when it is not.
The notice emphasized the importance of a functioning seatbelt status indicator to avoid confusion and highlighted the increased risk of injury in the event of a crash when seatbelts are not worn. Approximately 4,203 vehicles in Canada could be impacted by this seatbelt problem.
Hyundai has committed to notifying affected drivers through written communication, urging them to schedule a visit to a dealership for necessary repairs to the seatbelt wiring. Alternatively, drivers can check if their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN on Hyundai’s online recall lookup website or by contacting 1-888-216-2626.
Earlier this year, Hyundai recalled a significant number of vehicles in the United States and Canada and halted sales of specific new Palisade models due to a separate issue. This problem involved certain second and third-row power seats not stopping movement upon detecting contact with a passenger or object, leading to a tragic incident in Ohio where a two-year-old child lost their life.
