Business"India Launches OALP-XI for Oil, Gas Exploration"

India has initiated a fresh phase of oil and gas exploration to enhance domestic energy production. The government has introduced the 11th round of the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP), offering 21 blocks covering an area of nearly 80,228 square kilometers.

Describing the launch as a significant advancement, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized that OALP-XI signifies a new milestone in India’s energy endeavors. He highlighted the nation’s commitment to bolstering energy security and reducing reliance on imports.

When combined with OALP-10, the total exploration area now stands at approximately 262,817 square kilometers, following the addition of OALP-XI. The previous round, OALP-10, encompassed about 25 blocks over 182,589 square kilometers, indicating the government’s expansion of exploration opportunities across both onshore and offshore regions.

In a statement, Puri expressed that the objective is to unlock vast energy prospects beneath the country’s land and seas, promoting growth, resilience, and self-sufficiency. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision to expedite bidding processes and extend exploration activities.

Furthermore, the government has unveiled the bidding timeline for interested parties. The submission window will open on March 30, 2026, at 2:00 pm IST, and close on May 29, 2026, at 12:00 pm IST.

This latest round underscores India’s ongoing efforts to tap into its unexplored energy reservoirs and encourage increased participation in the exploration sector.
