India and the United States are gearing up to restart in-person trade discussions later this month, as confirmed by the Commerce Secretary. A delegation from India, led by the chief negotiator, is scheduled to visit the US starting April 20. This marks the first face-to-face meeting between the two parties in approximately three to four months, following a period of virtual discussions.
The upcoming talks are anticipated to primarily focus on finalizing a legal agreement, in line with a joint statement issued on February 7. Both countries are likely to address ongoing investigations involving multiple nations initiated by the US, aiming to strategize on how to manage and structure these matters moving forward.
The objective is to collaboratively establish timelines and determine the subsequent steps to advance the engagement. Concurrently, former President Donald Trump has suggested that oil prices could witness a significant decline post the resolution of the Iran conflict. Trump, in an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, mentioned that current oil prices, around USD 92 per barrel, may experience a substantial drop following the conflict resolution, expressing optimism in resolving the situation promptly.
Trump further indicated that fuel prices in the US, presently slightly above USD 4 per gallon, are expected to decrease significantly closer to the time of elections. With trade negotiations set to recommence and global oil prices under scrutiny, the upcoming weeks hold significance. These developments could have a broad impact on markets and economic confidence.
