India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, issued a strong warning to Pakistan regarding potential provocations amidst the ongoing conflict in Iran. The message, given at a military gathering in Kerala, emphasized that India’s response would be resolute if Pakistan attempted to exploit the Middle East turmoil for disruptive actions.
Singh highlighted the unfinished nature of Operation Sindoor, initiated after the tragic Pahalgam attack in 2025. He recalled how Indian forces swiftly incapacitated Pakistan during the operation, lasting only 22 minutes. The retaliatory operation saw the destruction of nine terrorist camps within Pakistani territory and significant damage to military installations, with some still undergoing repairs.
The Defence Minister underscored the series of decisive actions taken against terrorism, including surgical strikes post-Uri attack, air strikes following Pulwama, and Operation Sindoor. Singh did not specify the exact nature of potential Pakistani misadventures but warned of a strong Indian response.
Recent reports in Pakistani media suggested India might orchestrate a “false flag” operation using detained Pakistani nationals to deflect attention from Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the US-Iran conflict. However, these reports lacked substantiating evidence. Amidst these claims, Iran dismissed Pakistan’s mediation assertions, causing diplomatic embarrassment.
Singh’s caution to Pakistan also considers Pakistan’s abrupt aggression towards Afghanistan following Iranian and Israeli hostilities. Experts view Pakistan’s actions as a strategic maneuver by its army chief to avoid entanglement in the Iran conflict due to its defense pact with Saudi Arabia. The escalating Iran conflict, potentially drawing in Saudi Arabia, poses risks for Pakistan’s involvement, given its defense agreement with the Saudis.
The possibility of Pakistan being embroiled in a regional conflict, coupled with internal sectarian sensitivities and economic strains, raises concerns for the country. Rajnath Singh’s warning to Pakistan may encompass these geopolitical complexities, urging caution against any destabilizing actions within India’s vicinity.
