“Indian Navy Boosts Capabilities with New Vessel Acquisitions”

National"Indian Navy Boosts Capabilities with New Vessel Acquisitions"

The Indian Navy recently received three newly constructed vessels named Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray from Garden Reach Shipbuilding and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) in Kolkata. This acquisition is set to enhance the Navy’s operational capabilities significantly.

Dunagiri, a stealth frigate, is part of the Nilgiri-class under Project 17A. It is a versatile platform designed to tackle various maritime challenges, boasting advanced weapon systems like BrahMos missiles, rockets, and torpedoes. The vessel, a modern version of the earlier INS Dunagiri, emphasizes India’s commitment to self-reliance in warship construction by featuring improved stealth, firepower, automation, and survivability.

Sanshodhak, a Survey Vessel (Large), was also delivered alongside Dunagiri. This 110-meter vessel, weighing around 3,400 tonnes, is tailored for coastal and deep-water hydrographic operations. It is equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as data acquisition units, autonomous underwater vehicles, and digital side scan sonar, making it a valuable asset for mapping port approaches and gathering oceanographic and geophysical data.

Agray, the third vessel, is an Arnala-class anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASW SWC). This vessel, designed to bolster the Navy’s underwater threat detection and countermeasures, enhances coastal surveillance capabilities. Agray’s introduction, following the decommissioning of its predecessor INS Agray in 2017, signifies India’s progress in strengthening its indigenous defence manufacturing sector and reducing reliance on imports.

The delivery of these vessels highlights the Indian Navy’s commitment to modernize its fleet and reinforce its operational readiness.
