Kansas City’s professional football team issued a statement on Wednesday acknowledging allegations of domestic violence made on social media by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice. The team confirmed they were in contact with the NFL regarding the matter. The team refrained from mentioning Rice by name in their statement, stating they would not provide further comments at this moment.
Dacoda Nichole Jones also shared a series of photos on Instagram, suggesting signs of physical abuse without directly naming Rice. Jones mentioned that the individual involved was the father of her children, with Rice being the father of her two children. These events unfolded after Rice was selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 draft.
Despite Jones alleging abuse in Overland Park, Kansas, no official police reports were available. Earlier in the 2024 season, Rice missed six games due to an NFL suspension stemming from his involvement in a crash on a Dallas highway, resulting in multiple injuries. He later received a 30-day jail sentence and five years of probation after pleading guilty to third-degree felony charges related to the incident.
During the season, Rice recorded 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as Kansas City’s performance resulted in a 6-11 record, causing them to miss the playoffs for the first time in ten years.
