Marvel Studios made significant announcements during its Comic-Con International showcase on Saturday. They introduced David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, portraying the son of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. Additionally, it was revealed that Ryan Gosling will be taking on the role of Ghost Rider in upcoming films scheduled for a 2028 release.

David Jonsson appeared on stage with acclaimed Black Panther franchise director Ryan Coogler, alongside Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. Jonsson expressed gratitude and excitement, stating, “Thank you to this family that I have the honor and the blessing to join. I don’t want to say too much, because I want to let the screen do the talking.” Known for his roles in Industry, The Long Walk, and Alien: Romulus, Jonsson’s involvement in Black Panther III, set to premiere on Dec. 15, 2028, generated buzz among fans.

Following Boseman’s passing in 2020 and the revelation of T’Challa’s son in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, speculations arose about who would assume the Black Panther mantle. The original 2018 Black Panther was a groundbreaking success, earning a best picture Oscar nomination and over $1.3 billion worldwide. Its sequel also performed well, grossing $850 million.

In a separate announcement, Ryan Gosling was unveiled as the lead for Ghost Rider, reuniting with his Star Wars: Starfighter director Shawn Levy. Gosling expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating that he had long desired to portray the character. The storyline for Ghost Rider is highly anticipated as it marks the character’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Moreover, Marvel Studios revealed that Avengers: Endgame will be re-released in theaters with additional footage linking it to the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on Dec. 18. The trailer for Doomsday hinted at a connection between Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Victor Von Doom, and other key figures in the Marvel universe.

The star-studded lineup for Doomsday included a host of renowned actors such as Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Simu Liu, and many more. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance in a grey Deadpool costume, adding an element of excitement to the event.

Comic-Con attendees eagerly anticipated these announcements, with Marvel Studios aiming to revitalize its brand following mixed reception to recent projects. Despite shifting audience interests, upcoming releases like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Doomsday are expected to captivate viewers and reignite enthusiasm for superhero films.
