The Quebec Liberal Party will launch its leadership race on January 12, 2026, marking the end of Pablo Rodriguez’s six-month term. The new leader will be selected on March 14, 2026. Currently, Marc Tanguay, the MNA for LaFontaine, is serving as the interim leader of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly. Tanguay took over the role after Rodriguez resigned last Thursday amidst internal party turmoil. The party faced allegations of illegal campaign contributions to secure Rodriguez’s leadership victory, leading to an investigation by Quebec’s anti-corruption police, UPAC, into the alleged pay-for-vote scheme. Despite the controversy, Rodriguez denies any knowledge of the arrangement. Prospective candidates have until February 13 to apply for the leadership race and must gather 750 signatures from eligible members. Additionally, a $30,000 deposit is required to participate, with a spending limit capped at $120,000, excluding the deposit.
