A passenger train in Ukraine’s northern Sumy region was struck by a Russian drone, resulting in numerous injuries, officials confirmed on Saturday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced the incident as a brutal attack on the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region, sharing visuals of a damaged and burning passenger carriage. The strike, which targeted a train en route to Kyiv, left both passengers and rail workers wounded, according to Regional Gov. Oleh Hryhorov. Medical personnel and rescuers were swiftly deployed to the scene to assist. Oksana Tarasiuk, the head of the local district administration, informed that approximately 30 individuals sustained injuries from the strike, with no reported fatalities initially. Zelenskyy condemned the attack as an act of terrorism against civilians, emphasizing the world’s duty to address such atrocities. Moscow has intensified its airstrikes on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, with frequent attacks occurring over the past two months.
