“Trump Administration Revokes Iranian Residents’ Green Cards”

World"Trump Administration Revokes Iranian Residents' Green Cards"

The Trump administration has canceled the permanent resident status of several long-standing Iranian residents in the U.S. who have connections to current or former high-ranking Iranian officials.

In a recent announcement, the State Department disclosed that Seyed Eissa Hashemi, a psychology educator based in the Los Angeles area, along with his wife and son, all originally from Iran and holding green cards, have been detained by immigration authorities for deportation.

Hashemi, identified as the son of Masoumeh Ebtekar, who played a role as a spokesperson during the 1979 U.S. Embassy takeover in Tehran and later became Iran’s first female vice president, is among those affected by this measure.

This move follows a similar action taken last week by the State Department to revoke the green cards of the niece and grand-niece of the late Qasem Soleimani, the former chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad in early 2020.
