“Trump Announces 10-Day Ceasefire Between Israel and Lebanon”

World"Trump Announces 10-Day Ceasefire Between Israel and Lebanon"

US President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, a significant breakthrough following escalating tensions along the border. Trump revealed the ceasefire will commence at 5 PM EST (3:30 AM IST) as a crucial initial step towards fostering peace between the two nations. He emphasized the importance of this achievement, highlighting his successful track record in resolving global conflicts.

Representatives from Israel and Lebanon engaged in historic discussions in Washington earlier this week, facilitated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump commended the constructive conversations he had with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, underscoring the progress made towards peace. He assigned Vice President JD Vance, Secretary Rubio, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine to collaborate with both countries for a sustainable resolution.

Trump also expressed intentions to host Netanyahu and Aoun at the White House for the first significant talks between Israel and Lebanon since 1983. Lebanese President Aoun acknowledged diplomatic efforts, thanking Trump for his role in securing the ceasefire and promoting regional stability.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu confirmed his agreement to the 10-day ceasefire, emphasizing the necessity for Hezbollah’s dismantling for a lasting peace agreement. He affirmed that Israeli troops would remain stationed in southern Lebanon despite the temporary halt in hostilities. Netanyahu highlighted Trump’s commitment to a robust stance on Iran and reiterated efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Hezbollah outlined its stance, stating that the presence of Israeli troops in Lebanon would justify resistance, emphasizing restrictions on Israeli movements within the country during the ceasefire. Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri urged caution among civilians and advised delay in returning to their residences until the situation clarifies in adherence to ceasefire terms.

The US State Department announced the commencement of the 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon to pave the way for negotiations towards a permanent peace settlement. The statement highlighted Lebanon’s responsibility to prevent attacks by Hezbollah and other non-state armed groups against Israel, with Lebanon’s security forces entrusted with safeguarding national sovereignty.

This ceasefire, if executed as planned, signifies a pause in the longstanding hostilities between Israel and Lebanon. The recent conflict erupted on March 2, triggered by Hezbollah’s attacks on northern Israel following US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Israel responded with airstrikes on Beirut suburbs and issued evacuation orders for villages in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa Valley.

The 10-day ceasefire period aims to assess intentions and explore further dialogue possibilities between Israel and Lebanon. Compliance with ceasefire terms and effective communication will be crucial during this period to sustain the peace process.
