WhatsApp Web to Introduce New Chat Themes for Enhanced Customization

TechnologyWhatsApp Web to Introduce New Chat Themes for Enhanced Customization

WhatsApp is reportedly enhancing its web version with new chat themes, a feature already present on its mobile apps. The addition is expected to offer improved customization options and visual appeal to desktop users. WABetaInfo shared details indicating that users will soon be able to select default chat themes on WhatsApp Web, altering message bubble colors and wallpapers for a more cohesive appearance.

Currently, customization options on WhatsApp Web are limited to setting a default wallpaper and adding doodle overlays. The introduction of chat themes is set to bridge this gap and align the web experience more closely with the Android and iOS versions. Additionally, users will have the ability to customize individual chats with different themes, aiding in visually distinguishing between personal, work, or group conversations.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing up to 49 theme variations, including various shades and tonal options for colors like blue, providing users with greater flexibility in personalizing their chat interface. Importantly, these chat themes will be private, visible only to the user applying them and not affecting how chats appear to others.

The new feature is currently in development and is expected to first roll out to beta testers before being released to all users in a future update. In addition to chat themes, WhatsApp is also exploring the implementation of a username feature that could enhance communication privacy and convenience by allowing users to connect without sharing phone numbers. This move is anticipated to introduce an extra layer of security to interactions on the platform.
