Madhya Pradesh bowler Shivang Kumar marked his IPL debut with Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, April 2. Stepping in for Eshan Malinga, who struggled in the previous match, Shivang showcased his left-arm wrist-spin skills. Often compared to India’s Noor Ahmad, Shivang is known for his ability to trouble batsmen with his spin and contribute as a lower-order batsman. Sunrisers Hyderabad secured the 23-year-old for Rs 30 lakh in the previous year’s mini auction.
Shivang gained attention during the Vijay Hazare Trophy earlier this year, impressing with a standout performance for Madhya Pradesh. He took 10 wickets in three matches with an impressive economy rate of 5.16, including a memorable five-wicket haul against Karnataka. His performance in T20 matches has also been noteworthy, claiming four wickets at an economy rate of 8.05. His standout figures of 3 for 25 came against Bihar at Eden Gardens in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Before the IPL 2026 auction, Shivang Kumar participated in trials with various teams like Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Rajasthan Royals, receiving positive feedback. Despite facing scheduling conflicts, his talent caught the eye of multiple franchises, eventually leading to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s support.
