“AAP Names Ashok Mittal Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha”

National"AAP Names Ashok Mittal Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha"

The Aam Aadmi Party has made changes in its leadership in the Rajya Sabha by replacing Raghav Chadha with Punjab MP Ashok Mittal as the deputy leader. Chadha, who held the position since 2023, will no longer be allotted time to speak in Parliament following a formal communication sent to the Rajya Sabha secretariat.

The move, which stirred speculations of internal discord within the party, was clarified by Ashok Mittal, who assured that the transition was a regular occurrence and emphasized the party’s belief in providing opportunities to all members.

Chadha’s silence on significant developments concerning the AAP and its top figures has drawn attention, with past instances of distancing himself from party matters coming under scrutiny. Notably, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Chadha attributed his delayed response to Kejriwal’s arrest in a liquor scam case to his recovery from eye surgery in the UK.

In more recent events, Chadha refrained from publicly acknowledging the clearance of AAP leaders in a Delhi excise policy case in February 2026, sparking discussions. His absence from key party gatherings, including important press conferences and public addresses, has raised eyebrows among party members and supporters.

A longstanding member of the AAP, Chadha has been involved in various party roles, serving as the national treasurer and contributing to the Political Affairs Committee. With a background in chartered accountancy, he has been a vocal advocate for issues affecting the general populace, advocating for measures such as budget-friendly food options in airports and championing the rights of gig workers.

As a Rajya Sabha MP, Chadha has focused on consumer rights and social welfare issues, pushing for legislative changes such as paid paternity leave and enhanced telecom services for consumers. He has also held positions of responsibility outside Parliament, including serving as vice chairman of the Delhi Jal Board and advising Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Currently, Chadha serves as the Punjab co-incharge for the party.
