Apple is preparing to introduce the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series, expected to include the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max later this year, alongside a foldable iPhone. Recent online rumors have provided insights into the potential features of the new iPhones. Apple, which recently marked its 50th anniversary since its establishment in April 1976, may have significant plans for its flagship devices to commemorate this milestone.
Reports suggest that the base iPhone 18 may not be launched simultaneously with the Pro models and could debut in early 2027 instead.
Regarding the design and colors of the iPhone 18 Pro models, Apple is likely to maintain the large camera plateau introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro series but with alterations to the color palette. It is anticipated that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will sport a single-tone design for the aluminum unibody and glass backplate, possibly featuring a new deep red or burgundy shade. Notably, it is speculated that a black variant may not be offered this time.
In terms of the display, significant changes are expected for the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple is rumored to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on these devices by up to 35% compared to the previous year by relocating the flood illuminator component under the screen. The devices are likely to retain the same OLED displays as last year, with the iPhone 18 Pro featuring a 6.3-inch OLED panel and the iPhone 18 Pro Max sporting a 6.9-inch OLED screen. Both models are anticipated to support ProMotion technology with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
Apple is said to be planning notable performance upgrades for the iPhone 18 Pro series, potentially utilizing a new A20 Pro chipset built on a 2nm process. This chipset is expected to offer enhanced performance and efficiency compared to the A19 Pro chipset found in the iPhone 17 Pro models. Additionally, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could come with a slightly larger battery capacity ranging between 5,100 and 5,200mAh, an improvement over last year’s model. Apple is also likely to introduce its in-house C2 modem for enhanced 5G and LTE connectivity, along with a new N2 chip for improved wireless performance.
For the cameras, Apple is anticipated to retain the triple camera setup from last year’s iPhone 17 Pro Max series, featuring three 48-megapixel cameras. Reports suggest that the main sensor may include a variable aperture for better exposure control and depth of field, potentially enhancing low-light performance with a new sensor technology, possibly supplied by Samsung. The front camera is expected to be an 18-megapixel sensor carried over from the previous year.
Apple is expected to unveil a new version of Siri with iOS 27, running on Google’s Gemini models following a recent deal between the two tech giants. Users can anticipate additional Apple Intelligence features integrated into the iPhone 18 Pro devices without the need for external chatbots like ChatGPT for complex queries. Moreover, Apple is reportedly planning to transform Siri into a chatbot similar to ChatGPT and Gemini in the near future.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are likely to be launched at Apple’s fall event in September 2026, alongside the rumored foldable iPhone. Pricing details for the iPhone 18 Pro models are currently limited, but it is expected that the prices may align with those of the iPhone 17 Pro series. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at Rs 1,34,900 in India, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is priced at Rs 1,49,900.
