Taylor Kirk, the creative force behind the musical project Timber Timbre, has passed away at the age of 44. A spokesperson for Kirk confirmed the sudden death on April 14 to CBC Music, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. The representative stated that Taylor will be dearly missed, but his musical legacy will endure through the timeless tunes he has left behind.

Kirk established Timber Timbre in 2005, unveiling the debut album “Medicinals” in 2007. The third self-titled album by Timber Timbre was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize in 2009, while the subsequent release, “Creep on Creepin’ On” in 2011, made it to the shortlist for the same award. His music found its way into various films and TV series, such as “Breaking Bad,” “Russian Doll,” and Sarah Polley’s “Stories We Tell.”

NPR Music aptly described Timber Timbre as a project led by Taylor Kirk, a vocalist with a subtly soothing voice, crafting haunting melodies reminiscent of nocturnal sounds from a mystical forest. The music has been likened to the eerie ambiance of a David Lynch film or the unsettling allure of HBO’s “True Detective.”

During a Tiny Desk performance, Timber Timbre showcased songs like “Run From Me” and “Grand Canyon.” Kirk’s most recent album under Timber Timbre, “Lovage,” released in 2023, marked his seventh studio album, showcasing his continued artistic evolution and talent.
