Five Indian individuals and seven others were harmed by debris from a intercepted projectile in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Friday, as per the authorities. The debris fell in the Ajban area of the city, as reported by Abu Dhabi’s Media Office.
The government agency stated that all five Indian citizens sustained minor injuries, while the remaining injured individuals were Nepali nationals. The injuries were disclosed after a fire erupted at a gas facility in the same location due to the interception debris. Among the seven Nepali citizens injured, one suffered severe wounds, the media office confirmed.
“In connection with the earlier incident in the Ajban area caused by falling debris following a successful aerial interception, authorities have confirmed minor to moderate injuries for six Nepali nationals and five Indian nationals, as well as one major injury for a Nepali national,” a post on X revealed.
The exact origin and nature of the “aerial threat” were not revealed, but the incident occurred amid Iran’s ongoing attacks on Gulf states in the context of its conflict with Israel and the US in the region.
Previously, on March 26, an Indian national was among two individuals who lost their lives due to debris from a missile interception in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, five Indians were injured a few days later when debris fell near the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi during a ballistic missile interception by the UAE’s air defense system, local media sources reported.
Various locations in the Gulf region, including energy infrastructure, have been targeted by Iranian drones and missiles since the onset of the current Middle East conflict. Recently, Amazon’s computing operations in Bahrain were impacted by an Iranian strike, according to a report by the Financial Times citing sources.
While Bahrain’s Interior Ministry acknowledged a fire at a company facility following what authorities termed an Iranian attack, specific details about the affected firm were not provided.
