Ravichandran Ashwin has raised concerns about Lucknow Super Giants’ management of Rishabh Pant, indicating potential undisclosed issues regarding his batting position. The former Indian spinner suggests that Pant should be consistently utilized as an opener rather than facing uncertainty about his role.
Although Pant partnered with Mitchell Marsh as an opener against Delhi Capitals, he was dismissed for 7 in an unfortunate run-out incident. Despite this early setback, Pant hinted at continuing in the top order, prompting Ashwin to share his perspective on the matter via his YouTube channel.
Ashwin expressed, “All these statements may not confuse anyone but Pant himself. His statement implies there is a confidential matter being discussed with the team management. If I were in charge, Pant would open throughout the season. Consistency is crucial. Although he scored a century at No.3, opening suits him, so patience is essential.”
Pant’s potential move to the opening position is supported by statistics. In 23 T20 innings as an opener, he has maintained a strike rate of 159, including a century and five half-centuries, showcasing his effectiveness in that role.
