National"Ghaziabad Tragedy: Pilgrimage Ends in Double Drowning"

A tragic incident unfolded during a family pilgrimage in Haridwar, where a tech professional from Ghaziabad, Sachin Tyagi, 39, drowned while his neighbor, Brijesh Kumar Tripathi, 43, lost his life attempting to rescue him. The two men, who resided in the same building in Ghaziabad, had embarked on the pilgrimage with their families.

The unfortunate event occurred early on a Sunday morning when Tyagi slipped into a deeper part of the Ganga River and struggled in the strong current. In a brave effort to save him, Tripathi also entered the water but both were swept away by the powerful currents and vanished from sight.

Witnesses at the scene raised an alarm, leading to a prompt response from law enforcement and divers who initiated a search and rescue operation that lasted over an hour. Tragically, when the bodies of the two men were recovered from the river, they had already succumbed.

Local residents mentioned that the area where the incident transpired had previously featured a proper bathing ghat, but due to sediment accumulation over time, the riverbed had changed, making it challenging to gauge the water’s depth.

Both families had departed from Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad for their pilgrimage two days earlier. Tyagi’s family traveled in an Innova, while Tripathi’s family used a Creta. Instead of returning home as planned that evening, the news of the tragic deaths shocked their residential community.

Sachin Tyagi, survived by his wife and two daughters, was involved in the construction industry, with his parents residing with his elder brother elsewhere. Tripathi, the deceased neighbor, lived with his family and was employed at a Gurugram-based company.

A local resident, Ravindra Tyagi, expressed that the shared journey of both families made the loss particularly devastating for the community.
