Hours after a forceful verbal attack by Donald Trump on Iran, where he demanded the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran retaliated by cautioning that the US president was leading his nation into a disastrous situation and escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Iran, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, criticized Trump’s actions, stating that the US was heading towards a crisis due to his unwarranted provocations. He emphasized that pursuing aggressive actions based on external influences would only lead to catastrophic consequences.
Previously, Trump had threatened to target Iran’s infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, if Iran did not comply with his ultimatum set for April 6 regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Using the platform Truth Social, Trump issued a strong warning to Iran, indicating his willingness to take drastic measures if his demands were not met. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation and urged Iran to comply to avoid dire consequences.
In response to Trump’s aggressive rhetoric, the Iranian Embassy in Thailand criticized the US president’s behavior, implying that the country was regressing due to his unprofessional language and actions.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned Trump’s threats, labeling them as an instigation for war crimes and indicative of a ruthless mentality that disregards the well-being of civilians. He warned that targeting critical infrastructure would have severe implications, amounting to violations of international law.
Iran’s culture minister dismissed Trump’s threats as the words of an unstable and irrational individual. Trump, in subsequent statements, hinted at the possibility of extreme measures if negotiations failed, including seizing control of Iranian oil resources.
While Trump offered limited amnesty to Iranian negotiators during talks, he also made it clear that failure to reach an agreement could result in severe repercussions, potentially involving the destruction of vital assets and interference with Iran’s oil sector.
