Google has developed a new system, Gemini Robotics-ER 1.6, to enhance robots’ ability to analyze and make decisions in the physical world. This system improves robots’ spatial understanding and reasoning skills, allowing them to navigate complex environments, interpret various data, and perform tasks efficiently.

The new model enables robots to identify and count objects, select the correct tools from cluttered spaces, and determine task completion status. By utilizing multiple camera views and advanced reasoning capabilities, robots can comprehend their surroundings more effectively.

Moreover, Google aims to make industrial robots autonomous and mobile using this system. These robots can move autonomously within facilities, interpret analog information, and adhere to physical constraints like avoiding liquids or lifting items over a certain weight limit.

In contrast to Google’s approach, China’s Unitree Robotics has been focusing on enhancing robots’ physical capabilities. A recent viral video showcased Unitree Robotics’ H1 humanoid robot achieving a sprint speed of up to 10 meters per second, setting a new world record. This achievement positions the robot as a strong contender in the field of robotic athleticism, with ongoing test sessions leading up to the second Humanoid Robot Half Marathon in Beijing.

Unitree’s H1 robot has a history of success, with previous models setting Guinness World Records for speed. The H1 V3.0 Evolution model, for instance, achieved a walking speed of 3.3 meters per second, demonstrating significant progress in humanoid robotics.

Overall, these advancements in robotics technology from Google and Unitree Robotics represent diverse approaches to enhancing robots’ capabilities both in physical tasks and athletic performance.
