A Long Island architect leading a double life as a serial killer has pleaded guilty to the murder of seven women and has confessed to an eighth killing related to the long-standing Gilgo Beach case. Rex Heuermann, aged 62, made his admission in a crowded courtroom, where families of the victims witnessed the emotional proceedings. This guilty plea puts an end to one of the most disturbing and closely monitored serial murder investigations in the United States, known as the Gilgo Beach killings. For over a decade, this case baffled authorities and left families desperately seeking closure.
The saga began in 2010 when police stumbled upon multiple human remains along Ocean Parkway on Long Island’s South Shore while searching for a missing woman. This grim discovery sparked concerns of a serial killer and garnered significant public and media attention.

DNA extracted from a discarded pizza crust that Heuermann discarded in Manhattan proved to be a pivotal piece of evidence. The DNA sample matched evidence found on one of the victims, solidifying the case against him.
Furthermore, investigators unearthed what they described as a “blueprint” for the crimes on his computer, containing checklists outlining the execution, evasion of detection, and disposal of evidence—a chilling insight into the meticulous planning behind the atrocities.
