India’s preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games received a positive response from top officials after a thorough inspection by a high-level Commonwealth Sport delegation. The delegation, led by president Donald Rukare and including CEO Katie Sadleir and Director of Games & Assurance Darren Hall, visited various venues and infrastructure in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Ekta Nagar from April 8 to 10. This visit is part of the ongoing planning for the 2030 edition, which will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Commonwealth Games.
The officials assessed major competition venues such as the Narendra Modi Stadium, Mahatma Mandir, Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, and IIT Gandhinagar, evaluating existing infrastructure and readiness for upgrades. They also engaged with senior Gujarat government officials and city authorities to review planning timelines and logistical coordination.
Meetings were held with Indian sports administrators, including the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, focusing on governance structures, operational planning, and delivery models for the Games, aiming for a well-organized and athlete-focused event.
President Rukare commended the progress made, highlighting the extensive planning, quality venues, and strong support from national and state authorities. He praised Ahmedabad’s ambitious vision for the 2030 Games, emphasizing the opportunity to celebrate the event’s history and shape its future.
The visit reinforced Commonwealth Sport’s confidence in India’s ability to host a significant Games, acknowledging the country’s infrastructure and organizational capabilities. PT Usha, president of the Commonwealth Games Association (India), emphasized the collaborative efforts among stakeholders to deliver a top-tier event centered around the athletes.
The multi-city inspection is a crucial step in aligning stakeholders and solidifying key planning aspects for the 2030 Games. With ongoing assessments and further reviews expected in the coming months, India is progressing towards hosting one of the most pivotal editions in Commonwealth Games history.
