At least 10 individuals lost their lives, and approximately 25-30 others sustained injuries in a tragic collision in Katihar district on April 11, 2026. The incident occurred near Gerabari on National Highway 31, close to the Korha-Phulwaria Basgadha area, involving a bus and a pickup vehicle.
The victims, all belonging to the tribal community, were on their way back from Jharkhand when the pickup vehicle they were in collided head-on with the bus. Sadly, all 10 occupants of the pickup vehicle perished in the crash.
Katihar Police confirmed the fatalities and informed that the injured individuals are receiving medical attention at nearby hospitals. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families of the deceased and speedy recovery wishes to the injured. Additionally, he announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the PM National Relief Fund for the families of each deceased individual and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed sadness over the tragedy, extending condolences to the affected families. He declared compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Kumar ensured that proper treatment is being provided to the injured individuals for a swift recovery.
