Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan, the opening batsman in T20I cricket, shared his encounter with India’s Jasprit Bumrah during the 2025 Asia Cup. Bumrah is highly regarded as one of India’s top bowlers in T20 cricket, known for posing challenges to opposing batsmen throughout the game.
Despite the tough opposition, Farhan effectively faced Bumrah, hitting the Indian bowler for three sixes. This remarkable feat distinguished him as the only player to achieve this against Bumrah in T20Is. Farhan scored 51 runs off 34 deliveries against Bumrah, including six boundaries and three maximums, maintaining a strike rate of 150.
In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Farhan mentioned that facing Bumrah increased his confidence to handle other Indian bowlers. He highlighted that while Bumrah was a formidable opponent, other Indian bowlers like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav also posed challenges. Farhan expressed that starting with Bumrah and hitting him for a six boosted his morale as a player.
During the final match, Farhan scored 57 runs off 38 balls. However, it was Tilak Varma’s outstanding performance that led India to victory and secured the title.
Farhan acknowledged the initial challenge of facing Bumrah but emphasized that once a batsman manages to navigate through that phase, the other bowlers appear less intimidating. He mentioned that Bumrah’s variations like slower deliveries, yorkers, bouncers, and swing bowling make him a tough bowler to face, requiring batsmen to find their way to counter his tactics.
Farhan, who was the highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup 2026 with 383 runs from six matches, did not face Bumrah during the tournament as he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the India vs Pakistan clash. Bumrah ended the tournament as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets from eight matches.
