“Royal Challengers Bengaluru to Don Eco-Friendly Green Jerseys”

Sports"Royal Challengers Bengaluru to Don Eco-Friendly Green Jerseys"

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will showcase their iconic green jerseys during their upcoming home game against Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, April 18, as part of their ‘Green Initiative.’ These unique jerseys are made from recycled materials, symbolizing the team’s ongoing dedication to sustainability. Notably, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is recognized as the sole carbon-neutral T20 franchise globally.

Since launching the initiative in 2011, RCB has consistently integrated sustainability into its operations, emphasizing measurement, accountability, and engaging with fans to work towards carbon positivity.

Rajesh Menon, the CEO of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, expressed his thoughts on the initiative, stating, “Becoming a carbon-neutral T20 franchise is the culmination of years of focused effort. The green jerseys represent this commitment, and we hope it motivates our fans and stakeholders to adopt more responsible and sustainable practices.”

A key aspect of RCB’s sustainability drive involves analyzing fan behavior on matchdays. By conducting comprehensive surveys across all stands at the stadium, the franchise studies commute patterns, ride-sharing habits, and estimates carbon emissions per spectator to gain a thorough understanding of the environmental impact of fan travel.

Fans are encouraged to use public transportation to attend matches, with match tickets offering access to the Bengaluru Metro.

At the stadium level, RCB has enhanced its waste management systems, ensuring diligent monitoring and audits of waste segregation practices. The team implements various strategies to reduce and offset carbon emissions, including waste segregation and management, utilizing renewable energy sources such as solar-powered lighting, and encouraging fans to pledge towards reducing reliance on conventional resources.

RCB maintains a detailed assessment of its operational footprint, including emissions linked to team travel, accommodation, and energy consumption. This involves scrutinizing travel distances, fuel usage, accommodation-related emissions, stadium energy usage through audits, and electricity consumption records.

In addition, sustainability audits will be conducted on matchdays throughout the season to enhance on-ground accountability. These efforts will culminate in a comprehensive sustainability report, followed by an independent assurance process.

With four wins out of five matches played so far, RCB finds themselves in a strong position within the playoff spots.
