Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fast bowler Kartik Tyagi has expressed support for his teammate and T20 World Cup champion Varun Chakravarthy, believing that he will bounce back stronger from his recent struggles as they prepare to face Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Chakravarthy has faced challenges at the beginning of the current Indian Premier League season, having gone without taking a wicket and conceding over 11 runs per over in the three matches he has played. Tyagi, who has also overcome setbacks in his career due to injuries, emphasized the importance of navigating through tough phases in a cricketer’s journey for growth and improvement.
“Every cricketer encounters periods where performance may dip. These challenges are essential for personal growth and development as a bowler,” Tyagi remarked ahead of the upcoming match against Gujarat Titans. “This could be that phase for Varun bhaiya, and I believe he will emerge stronger from it.”
Chakravarthy’s struggles have been ongoing since the T20 World Cup, where he kicked off strongly by claiming nine wickets in the initial four matches with an impressive economy rate of 5.17. However, his form declined later, resulting in a total of 14 wickets at an economy rate of 9.25 by the end of the tournament.
Facing a resurgent Gujarat Titans team, KKR is hopeful that their key spinner can break out of his slump and contribute to a turnaround for both his individual performance and the team’s fortunes. The franchise is currently experiencing a challenging start to the IPL season, with four losses in their initial matches and only one point obtained from a match against Punjab Kings that ended in a washout.
“It’s a combination of factors. We’ve had some instances where luck didn’t favor us in certain matches. The last game went well for us. Moving forward, we need to display stronger intent. Not winning impacts the entire team, but we are striving to give our best efforts,” Tyagi elaborated.
Following their game against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, KKR will head back home to encounter an in-form Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, April 19.
