“Air Canada Flight Incident: Crew Member Trapped in Cargo Hold”

National"Air Canada Flight Incident: Crew Member Trapped in Cargo Hold"

Gabrielle Caron found herself in an unexpected situation on her way back from a Mexico vacation when her flight from Toronto to Moncton faced a peculiar incident. While Air Canada Rouge Flight 1502 was taxiing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Caron observed flight attendants rushing down the cabin aisle. The plane came to a stop before reaching the runway, and Caron glimpsed the crew gathering outside the aircraft. The pilot then informed passengers that a crew member was inside the luggage hold.

The occurrence, which occurred on December 13 on an Airbus 321A with a capacity of up to 184 passengers, involved the inadvertent closure of the cargo doors with a ground crew member inside. Air Canada stated that there were no injuries, and an investigation is ongoing. The union representing the ground crew members declined to comment on the incident.

Following the incident, the flight returned to the terminal, and passengers were asked to deboard while the crew handled paperwork. Due to the pilot’s work hours expiring, the flight was further delayed, leading to its cancellation. Caron later discovered the severity of the situation when speaking to fellow passengers who heard the trapped crew member yelling and banging for attention.

Stephanie Cure, another passenger from Moncton, also heard the crew member’s cries for help after initially being unaware due to her headphones. She captured the situation on her phone and shared it on social media, garnering significant attention. Cure learned that the trapped individual was an extra crew member assisting with the load, as per discussions with other passengers.

Air Canada confirmed that the trapped worker was part of their ground crew. While Cure received a $1,000 compensation, Caron was only provided a $400 voucher and an apology from Air Canada. Aviation industry expert John Gradek noted that passengers like Caron may be entitled to more compensation, suggesting potential legal actions. Gradek believes the incident resulted from improper procedures by the ground crew.

Despite the potential dangers had the aircraft taken off, Gradek assured that there was no risk of hypothermia during the incident. He emphasized the importance of the ongoing investigation in determining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Caron expressed relief that everyone was safe and highlighted the unpredictable nature of travel experiences.
