“Apple and Samsung Rumored to Develop Micro-Curved OLED Display for iPhone 20”

Technology"Apple and Samsung Rumored to Develop Micro-Curved OLED Display for iPhone 20"

Apple has not yet officially announced the iPhone 18 series, but speculations about the 20th-anniversary iPhones are circulating online. While Apple is anticipated to make some adjustments to the upcoming iPhones, reports suggest that the company has significant plans for 2027 when the iPhone commemorates its 20th year. One key aspect of these plans could involve a new micro-curved OLED display developed in collaboration with Samsung.

According to reliable insider Digital Chat Station, Apple and Samsung are collaborating on a custom micro-curved OLED display that is expected to offer enhanced brightness and thinness compared to current panels.

In 2017, Apple introduced the iPhone X to mark a decade of the iPhone. The iPhone X featured an edge-to-edge display with a notch, a design considered groundbreaking at the time. Fast forward ten years, Apple is reportedly aiming to take it a step further with an iPhone that may embody Jony Ive’s concept of a ‘single slab of glass.’

The speculated 20th anniversary iPhone might sport a display with minimal bezels, potentially incorporating a curved OLED panel. Reports suggest Apple is aiming for an equally deep quad-curved panel with subtle ‘micro-curves’ instead of the more pronounced ‘waterfall’ edges found in some Samsung displays.

The objective, as outlined in reports, is to provide a more ergonomic feel, enhance the user experience of edge swipes, minimize distortion around the edges, and achieve a bezel-free appearance without increasing inadvertent touches while holding the device.

If Apple proceeds with this innovative display, there are indications that Samsung may adopt a similar panel for its Galaxy S28 lineup in 2028.

As for the rumored broader goal of the 20th anniversary iPhone, it is speculated to be a premium all-glass model without any display interruptions. However, conflicting reports exist regarding Apple’s approach to this concept.

While some sources suggest that Apple may face challenges integrating the entire Face ID system under the display by 2027, others believe it is still feasible. If a fully under-display Face ID setup proves unattainable, Apple might opt for combining it with a small hole-punch cutout for the front camera. Recent speculations also hint at Apple testing an under-display iPhone camera for the 2027 model.

The iPhone 20 is projected to launch in fall 2027. It remains unclear if the reported changes will extend across the entire iPhone range or be limited to high-end models. Beyond design enhancements, consumers can anticipate improved performance, battery life, and imaging capabilities, though specific details are currently scarce.
