In Faridkot, Punjab, a female assistant sub-inspector (ASI) faced suspension for allegedly restraining her five-year-old granddaughter to a gate at her residence under the scorching sun, as per the police report on Wednesday. The suspension followed the circulation of a video on social media showing the distressed child tied up with cloth binding her hands and feet to the gate.
Neighbors, who witnessed the distressing scene and recorded the incident, responded to the child’s cries and untied her. It was revealed that the girl’s parents are currently residing in Portugal, entrusting the care of their child to the grandmother.
ASI Sarabjit Kaur, serving as a Mahila Mitra (women’s helpdesk) in Faridkot, was immediately suspended by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Pragya Jain, upon the video gaining traction online. Deputy Superintendent of Police Tarlochan Singh noted that ASI Kaur, a resident of Dogar Basti in Faridkot, acted inappropriately by subjecting the child to such treatment despite being a member of the police force.
In response, Kaur was suspended, and the case has been forwarded to the child welfare committee for further investigation and action.
