A prominent economist, Jeffrey Sachs, has issued a grave warning regarding the safety of the most renowned cities in the Gulf region. Sachs cautioned the United Arab Emirates against involvement in the current conflict, highlighting the potential immediate risks faced by Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Speaking during escalating tensions in the Middle East, Sachs emphasized the danger of exposing the UAE’s economic and urban centers, which have been developed as global tourist and financial hubs, to the perils of warfare. He expressed concerns that cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, not designed for prolonged military defense, could be at risk if the UAE engages in the conflict.
Sachs underscored that the unique nature of these cities, primarily serving as resort areas and tourist hotspots rather than fortified military zones, makes them particularly vulnerable. Describing the current situation in the UAE as an “absurd mess,” Sachs criticized the country’s alignment with the United States and Israel, deepening its exposure to potential threats.
