The US Secret Service announced on Sunday that they are looking into reports of gunfire near Lafayette Park overnight, which is situated opposite the White House.
There were no reported injuries, and despite conducting a thorough search of the park and its vicinity after midnight, no suspect was located, as per the agency’s online statement.
President Donald Trump was at the White House for the weekend, and there was no immediate comment from the White House regarding the incident. While White House operations continued as usual, security measures in the area were heightened, as confirmed by the Secret Service.
The park has been cordoned off for several weeks due to ongoing renovations.
The Secret Service mentioned that they are collaborating with the District of Columbia police and US Park Police in the investigation.
