The revelation, made during the Summer Game Fest, a yearly showcase of video game trailers and promotional content, elicited a similar reaction from gamers and influencers who were taken aback by the unexpected inclusion of the influential American rapper and activist who passed away in 1996.
The game in question, “Stranger Than Heaven,” is currently being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, a Japan-based entity under the umbrella of Sega. Serving as a prequel to the popular “Like a Dragon” series, also known as “Yakuza,” the narrative spans approximately 50 years during the early 1900s.
This announcement marked the latest in a string of creative choices that have raised skepticism toward the studio, prompting questions about the intentions behind leveraging Tupac Shakur’s enduring legacy. The character named Amaru, based on Shakur’s real middle name, will play a role in the game, although specific details about his involvement have not been disclosed.
