India has expressed concern over China’s action of assigning imaginary names to Indian territories to fabricate false narratives. The Indian government emphasized that such actions by China would not change the reality but could hinder efforts to improve bilateral relations.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, firmly rejected any deceptive efforts by China to designate fake names to areas that are part of Indian territory. India had strongly objected when China renamed certain locations in Arunachal Pradesh last year and in April 2024.
Jaiswal reiterated India’s stance, stating that the places in question, including Arunachal Pradesh, are an integral and inseparable part of India, regardless of China’s attempts to create baseless claims. He added that China’s actions divert attention from the ongoing endeavors to normalize relations between the two countries.
Highlighting the need for positivity in bilateral relations, Jaiswal urged China to refrain from actions that could undermine efforts to enhance mutual understanding. The tensions between India and China escalated after the border dispute in eastern Ladakh in 2020, leading to a strained relationship. However, recent efforts have been made to rebuild and improve ties.
China recently released a new list renaming several places in Indian territory. The Chinese Civil Affairs Ministry issued standardized names for multiple locations in Zangnan, with Zangnan being the Chinese term for Arunachal Pradesh. China asserts territorial claims over Arunachal Pradesh, considering it part of southern Tibet.
